Memorial Tattoo

I was commissioned to create a tattoo for a mother who wanted to pay tribute to her children in the form of a tattoo. In the consultation I learned that their daughter was born with Spina Bifida. I learned that a butterfly was a symbol of the illness due to the fact that no two cases were alike. Additionally, the spine was a requirement to the tattoo to further symbolize the illness. During the consultation I also learned that my client had lost her second child in a miscarriage and wanted to represent them in the tattoo as well, the concept of using the flower forget me nots was a major want due to their symbolization of loss and grief. My client wanted an additional element to unite her two children which is where we decided to use their birth flowers together. Created by piecing together designs in Illustrator until a final design that the mother was happy with. The design was then handed over to the tattoo artist.
